Broderik Move Massive Dorris – VTL VCE 2000

Broderik Engineering UK Ltd was asked to move a Dorris VCE2000 from Rostock Germany by Tees Components, at short notice.

We decommissioned and disassembled the 2m vertical turning lathe in Rostock having not seen the machine before. The machine was extremely dirty with a thick layer of coolant and cast dust all over it. We left our boots and trousers in the bin that week they were in such a state. We liaised with the transport contractor to organize how many flat beds we needed and on what date to ship the machine back to the UK; 4 lorries were needed.  Two of us had the 56 ton machine safely and successfully dismantled and loaded in two weeks. The machine was unloaded by the customer and put into temporary storage.  During which time we liaised with ground work contractors and the customer about the foundations to advise on hole positions, coolant run off angles, and work to a time limit. We spent at least a week cleaning the machines components ready for assembly. All parts were fully cleaned and the machine had a comprehensive service while we installed it. All heavy components were assembled using an overhead crane. Electrical cabinet, all the wiring, hydraulics, hydrostatics coolant and swarf removal were all installed and the original steel flooring was all put back. The machine was leveled and geometry set.  With some assistance from the OEM to help set up the tool changer and a new install of software data in English we had the machine installed and commissioned in eight weeks over a 4 month period. On the Friday we pulled out from the handover we didn’t receive a call with a problem with the machine for nearly nine months, A testament to the build quality of the Dorris VCE and a proud installation by us.  All the slinging and lifting was done by ourselves and we used Mewps to assist with the install. It was a dirty job, well done and a great experience for one of our apprentices who helped us install the machine.

“Broderik Eng came highly recommended from another blue-chip engineering company to ourselves.

Tees components would not hesitate to recommend Broderik for any machine tool installation as the work was carried out efficiently and to a high standard.

The working area was always organised and clean.

Any issues with the machine tool were quickly rectified.

Commissioning and calibration reports were handed over on completion.”
