British precision engineering firm part of world record bid

Story added 20 January 2009.

A precision engineering firm based in Rotherham has been selected to produce parts for a supersonic car (SSC) in a bid to break the world land speed record, it has been announced.

Newburgh Engineering will be visited by the Bloodhound SSC team to assess its facilities, which include CNC lathes, in order to look at the specialist skills which the company has in place to support the new project.

Operations manager at Newburgh David Greenan stated that the company was delighted to be product sponsors, adding that having both the equipment and expertise necessary for the task were two things his business was proud of.

He continued: "At the speeds being attempted by the car, high-quality precision components are essential and our team of qualified engineered are looking forward to demonstrating their skills."

Thrust SSC is the current world record holder, going over 760 mph, with the same team engineering the Bloodhound SSC project.
