For the rough machining of high tensile strength steels, titanium and similarly difficult to machine materials, the new Hanita 4940 Series of milling cutters is now available from ITC.
The new multi-flute square end series of 4940 milling cutters from the Tamworth based manufacturer have proven a resounding success in the marketplace since their recent launch. The range recently received their UK exhibition debut at the Autosport 2011Show. Ideal for the machining of aerospace grade alloys that are commonly used in the F1 & Motorsport industries, the 4940 Series has already proven to drastically improve cycle times and productivity with manufacturers in these demanding industry sectors.
This exceptional new solid carbide series is TiAlN coated to improve tool life and deliver a consistently high level of reliability when machining materials in the 45HRc hardness range. Available in a wide variety of diameters that include 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 25mm; each cutter in the series has a shank diameter and length of cut identical to the cutting diameter. These parameters ensure the 4940 Series has the optimal geometry to ensure the 4940 is an extremely robust and rigid series, attributes that further enhance cutting performance, tool life and surface finishes.
To further improve metal removal rates, the 4940 Series has a ribbed surface with a flat shallow pitch, a feature that improves cutting performance along the whole cutting length and also improves swarf evacuation. The optimal tool geometry and rigid cutter design is further enhanced by a corner radius on the range. The 6, 8 and 10mm cutters have a 0.75mm radius whilst the 12 and 16mm diameters and the 20 and 25mm cutters have a respective radius of 1 and 1.25mm. This feature improves reliability and performance when conducting heavy cutting operations where competitor offerings fail and deliver poor tool life and consistency. The 4940 Series has rapidly established a reputation in the marketplace among manufacturers in the F1, aerospace, Mould & Die and medical industry sectors.
