CNC machining agreement announced

Story added 16 December 2008.

Global provider of CNC machining solutions Climax Portable Machine Tools has announced that it is to join forces with Hitachi Canadian Industries to provide the company with equipment.

Climax's CM6000 portable circular milling machines are to be harnessed by the business, with Hitachi's contract also including the training of its staff in their use of the equipment to aid in the precision machining of wind tower flanges.

President and chief executive officer of Climax Geoff Gilmore said that companies now needed innovation from such things as turning centres and CNC lathes to keep up with the quick pace of the turbine development industry, which is where his company came in.

He said that Hitachi's order showed that "one of the major manufacturers of wind towers in North America" validated his company's "ability to provide innovative machine tools that will optimise the manufacturing process, and enable them to compete more effectively in the growing wind market".

Climax says that it pioneered the portable precision engineering concept over 40 years ago.
