Deburring service enhances CNC machining capabilities

Story added 05 December 2008.

A cryogenic deburring service has been improved to further enhance parts made by precision engineeringmachining centres.

Nitrofreeze has already been adopted by customers across industries including aerospace, automotive and medical devices and can be used on materials such as plastics, organics and polymers.

Created by the Cryogenic Institute of New England, the process benefits parts with intricate shapes that have been cut or milled on CNC machining equipment.

Nitrofreeze protects the surface finish and critical dimensions during burr removal, as parts are processed in a cryogenically frozen condition.

The use of advanced materials in machining centres has expanded the market for finishing processes to work alongside machining centres, explains Robin Rhodes, president of the institute.

Product marketing specialist Ryan Taylor adds that the cryogenic deburring process offers advantages including consistent cleaning and repeatable results.

Since first offering a cryogenic deburring service in 2003, the institute has processed million (millions?) of individual parts.
