Delcam issues parallel processing guide

Story added 23 June 2009.

One of the world's leading specialists in the supplying of CAM software for precision engineering has issued a free guide to the use of computers with parallel processing technology in CNC machining.

Delcam announced the white paper at the end of last week, highlighting the range of options available to companies wishing to invest in the best computers available to assist them in their use of CNC lathes and other processing tools.

Background information first allows an organisation to simulate, prepare and edit toolpaths in the foreground while also calculating other toolpaths behind the action - emphasising the abilities of its PowerMILL software, which was developed in recent versions to be successful in this activity.

Multi-core PCs are recommended for this, though it will work on older computers.

The second part of the white paper shows how parallel processing can calculate different parts of one major complex calculation, dividing an operation evenly over the cores to save up to 60 per cent on toolpath calculation times.

This week, Delcam previewed its new programs at a productivity seminar at the Sandvik Canada Technical Center near Toronto to highlight the abilities of CAM software.
