Engineering Consultancy Firm assists Engineering Companies and Manufacturers save money

Story added 22 March 2010.

Endeavour Engineering Technologies is looking to build on the success that it has had in 2009. With several major engineering manufacturing companies already making significant savings from its advice, the Fife-based engineering consultancy is now looking to expand its customer base through a wider range of services.

Endeavour’s philosophy of drawing expertise from around the globe, with a network of suppliers, including the Greenleaf Corporation providing specialist products, such as ceramic cutting tools, has already resulted in cost savings and improved productivity for clients manufacturing components in offshore industries, railtrack and across the spectrum of manufacturing industry.

In only its third year of business it has used its production engineering consultancy methods to highlight major savings for the Wood Group of Peterhead. Endeavour Engineering Technologies introduced a world first in terms of tooling design at the Wood Group resulting in the production of valves for the oil industry being greatly improved. Alan Gray, Operations Manager at The Wood Group, says “Machining Inconel, to tight tolerances, made it a tough task for Endeavour, but they worked well with our engineers to formulate the design of the new tools that we needed, and the end result gave us a totally new solution to overcome a problem, and made it a very worthwhile exercise.”

Endeavour Engineering Technologies is a consultancy with a new outlook on problem solving for its clients. Put simply, its goal is to source, world-wide, the best, and bring experts in as required to solve engineering problems for its customers. “Most companies no longer have the resources to identify and apply the latest technologies, and this is providing the opportunity for us to deliver a valuable service to engineering companies, whether they have small or, large machine shops,” says Ken Buchanan, Endeavour Engineering Technologies’ Managing Director.

“The services offered are varied from programming to complete management but our passion is new tooling technology and methods. With access to over half million special application tooling layouts, making Endeavour Engineering Technologies one of Europe’s leaders in this field, it can design, manufacture and deliver special design tools. The ability to develop the quickest and most cost-effective way of manufacturing products by reviewing established manufacturing methods; and overseeing and assisting with the implementation of any changes identified is generating major cost savings.”

Endeavour is also working closely with Balfour Beatty Rail, South Queensferry, where it is seeing one of its biggest successes in improving productivity. Balfour Beatty Rail is witnessing productivity improvements not seen in the last 25 years in the machining of cast manganese crossings. These improvements have come about under the guidance of Endeavour thanks to changes in cutting tool technology and machining processes.

“Our philosophy is simple,” says Ken Buchanan, Endeavour Engineering Technologies’ Managing Director, “as a consultancy we work with clients and get to the nitty gritty of their manufacturing operation to develop innovative ways of manufacturing. By taking things back to basics we arrive at practical and workable solutions to manufacturing problems.”

This ‘back to basics’ approach ensures that its customers feel confident in being able to hand over projects in their entirety, safe in the knowledge that every aspect of the manufacturing process will be investigated in order to deliver the cost reductions necessary to ensure the long-term viability of individual projects or, even the business as a whole.
