Micro Machining Seminar Held by GF AgieCharmilles

EDM and Milling machine tool specialist, GF AgieCharmilles, in conjunction with The University of Manchester and a number of technical partners (Microsystems UK Ltd, Rolls-Royce Plc, Rainford Precision Machines, Teer Coatings Ltd and WLR Prototype Engineers Ltd), will be hosting the half-day 'ELMACT' dissemination seminar on Micro-machining at its Coventry facility on 9th September 2010 (10.00 - 2.00pm).

ELMACT, which stands for 'Extended Life Micro-tooling by Advanced Coating Technology', follows the completion of a 3 year research project, jointly funded by The Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and The Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSR), into Micro-machining and, specifically, on the use of high-precision Micro-tooling and different cutting tool coatings for Micro-milling and Micro-drilling applications.

The ELMACT event, aimed at precision manufacturers currently involved (or who wish to get involved) in Micro-machining, provides a unique opportunity for manufacturers to find out more about the research findings, and to catch up with the latest developments and thinking from industry experts.

Says Martin Spencer, GF AgieCharmilles' Managing Director:

'Micro-machining is increasing in importance.

'It is widely recognised a key enabling technology for the future, and a growing number of industry sectors (i.e. biomedical, aerospace, electronics, micro-mechanics, automotive etc.), are already using and applying micro-machining technology best-practice in and across their manufacturing operations. Many more are actively considering its manufacturing and commercial viability.

'GF AgieCharmilles has, along with The University of Manchester and other technical partners, been involved in the Project from the start and is delighted to be hosting the event.

'I am confident that the ELMACT half-day seminar, which will incorporate a mix of informative presentations and practical machining demonstrations, prove illuminating, rewarding and invaluable to precision manufacturers.'
