New Milling Cutters, Cutter Bodies and Inserts from WNT

Story added 21 February 2012.

WNT (UK) has announced a major extension to its range of 2510RS button milling cutters, with new cutter bodies, inserts, and chipbreaker design making the range suitable for a wider range of applications.

The extended range of indexable insert cutter bodies in the 2510RS series now covers diameters from 10 mm through to 125 mm with a variety of shank/coupling configurations to suit all machine types. Thanks to their ‘robust’ design each cutter body is capable of maximising metal removal, a benefit enhanced by the optimised chip space around each insert pocket. To counter the threat of body wear under these elevated cutting conditions each body is protected by WNT’s Highlight coating

The cutter bodies also feature an indexing aid for inserts of 10 mm diameter and above. This will help maximize insert life and is of particular value now that up to eight indexes per insert are possible subject to the depth of cut applied. The eight index maximum is available across the entire range of insert diameters of 5mm, 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm and 20 mm. The insert range is also extended with the arrival of a new chipbreaker form designated M32. When selected with WNT’s HCN 5235 grade it is an ideal solution for the machining of heat resistant materials due to its stability and ability to machine these materials at feedrates of between 0.35 and 0.6 mm/tooth. Currently this chipbreaker is only available on 10 and 12 mm diameter inserts.

This combination of robust cutter bodies, wide range of inserts and chipbreakers make the 2510RS series of button insert milling cutters one of the most versatile on the market, with the ability to ramp, axial plunge, and circular mill into solid they are ideal for volume metal removal in a wide range of applications, including aerospace, mould and die and general engineering.
