Cost saving Milling Tooling available from Tooling supplier LMT

Story added 29 January 2010.

Brinksway Tool Ltd, is a major supplier of press, tool, jig and fixtures for the automotive, marine and aerospace industries. The company has created a CNC production facility with a milling table capacity up to 2 metres by 5 metres, a jig borer capacity with four machines up to 1.5 metres by 1 metre and a range of lathes with specifications up to 700 mm diameter by 1,250 mm between centres.

Brinksway produces off-line programs that are DNC driven to each of six Heidenhain controlled three, four and five-axis machining centres.

Following technical advice on milling from LMT UK, Brinksway reviewed its pocket milling strategies in the production of formers for composite panels and was able to cut processing times of up to five days down to just five/six hour cycles. Tool life for milling s also increased by up to 25%.

The improvement came following a joint survey of the process by the tooling distributor, E W Equipment of Cheadle and LMT UK of Meriden. LMT generated recommended tool paths using the latest Fette MultiEdge cutters and new PVD coated s which require 25% less power to drive the tool in mould and die applications.
