Mollart five-axis machine proves to be huge success

Story added 06 November 2009.

Mollart Engineering has succeeded in securing an order to produce 36 oil feed porting holes in a 7.5 tonne marine bearing following the successful demonstration of its wares.

It was revealed by the organisation that the flexibility of the five-axis Mollart Centeplex precision engineering system in combining deep hole drilling of compound angle holes and thread milling into a single cycle had impressed a partner of the organisation.

Neil Anderson, the subcontract manager behind the one-off project, said that usually, the size of the part, the number and the positioning of individual compound angle holes would require these part types to have a long time to set.

He continued: "The job would also require very careful attention using a normal machining centre and exact positioning a deep hole drill would be exceedingly difficult. The Centeplex enabled the machining operation to be completed in under three days."

Mollart Engineering has recently announced that it has added micro-drilling to its portfolio of machining offerings.
