New five axis CNC machining centre boring heads developed by Mollart Engineering

Story added 19 January 2010.

A new generation of 80 mm deep hole boring heads have been developed by Mollart Engineering for its five-axis Centeplex dual spindle CNC machining centre. The Centeplex has the unique ability to produce inclined holes and features on a component that are required up to ±15° off centreline.

With its over/under shotgun-style spindle arrangement with the spindle fed from a 60 tool magazine, the Centeplex will also accommodate traditional CNC machining centre cycles. It uses a 20 kW, ISO 50 taper driven spindle which is fully programmable within the overall machining cycle. With this capability the machine is ideal for applications such as cooling holes in mould and die, lubrication feed holes in bearing housings and for hydraulic systems requiring interconnecting hole features on larger size components and housings.

The Centeplex has a table size of 2,000 mm by 2,740 mm with a 16 tonne load capacity.  It has full CNC positioning over the axis strokes of 1,800 mm in X and 1,325 mm in Y.

The five-axis Centeplex dual spindle CNC machining centre is installed at the Chessington, Surrey subcontracting machining operation of Mollart Engineering.
