New machining centre for precision engineering firm

Story added 12 December 2008.

Staffordshire firm MG Sanders has purchased a new horizontal machining centre from Toshiba.

The BMC800 will machine components for the Jet Tokamek device, reports Manufacturing Talk.

With two 800mm pallets, components of up to 1.5m x 1m can be machined while the operator loads or unloads the second pallet.

Furthermore, the four axis machining centre allows for all faces of a workpiece to be machined in one set-up.

The firm has been using the horizontal machining centre to machine billets costing up to £10,000 a block and taking more than a day to square.

MG Sanders was established more than 35 years ago and has become a premier supplier of precision-tooled, high quality tungsten products.

It machines pieces for industries such as medicine, motorsport, defence and aerospace.

Located in Stone, it operates a 7,000 sq m facility which incorporates a 200 sq m semi-clean environment.
