Older workers are 'great resource' in precision engineering

Story added 04 June 2009.

A CNC machining firm from the north-west has highlighted the skills which older workers can bring to its environment, particularly in the recession.

CTL Engineering, a precision engineering firm which employs 88 staff in Stockport, produces high-quality fabrications for the oil, gas, aerospace and power generation sectors and finds its older team members are just as important - if not more so - than their younger colleagues, This is Money reported.

Managing director of the company Ian Booth said that as long as people can do the job, the organisation is happy for them to stay there.

He continued: "With their lifetime of skills and experience our oldest engineers play a crucial role in helping us to achieve that and in passing on their knowledge and expertise to our apprentices."

CTL has been in the trade for the last 50 years and specialises in CNC horizontal boring, full rotary milling and gun drilling.
