New Inserts for Sliding Head Lathe Turning

Story added 02 November 2011.

Following the launch of its dedicated range of J-Series toolholders and turning inserts for high precision turning operations, the Tungaloy Corporation has now further extended the popular series to incorporate additional inserts. The new additions make the Tungaloy J-Series one of the most comprehensive ranges available for sliding head lathe users and manufacturers of small and intricate components.

The extremely productive range of J-Series toolholders and JS Type inserts were predominantly available for external turning processes, however the R&D team at Tungaloy has now created a number of new designs for internal turning on small lathes.

The JS Type chipbreaker range of inserts is renowned for its dynamic inclination that lowers cutting forces and improves chip control. The additional benefit is a steep protrusion that breaks chips at small depths of cut while improving chip coiling when taking larger depths of cut, making the JS Type chipbreaker a necessity for all small turning applications. When combined with Tungaloy’s high quality PVD coated SH730 grade, the new additions to the JS chipbreaker series will revolutionise internal turning processes for customers machining steels, stainless and super alloys.

Complementing the new internal turning inserts, Tungaloy has also extended the J-Series of Toolholders. The new JSVJ2B external turning toolholder with a positive rake has a 93-degree lead angle making it an extremely diverse profiling toolholder. Available as a right or left hand tool, the new toolholder incorporates Tungaloy’s J2 cutting edge style and is available with 10X10, 12X12 or 16X16mm shanks.

Alongside the JSV toolholder is a 91-degree offering. The JSVAB addition to the J-Series incorporates Tungaloy’s A cutting edge style. Ideal for finishing operations when external turning the JSVAB is offered without an offset and like the JSVJ2B, it also has the option of toolholder dimensions to suit various small turning centres.

The Japanese manufacturer has also added a new JSVL2P toolholder for turning and facing operations. With its 95-degree lead angle, this new toolholder offers Tungaloy’s L2 type cutting edge style. For profiling, the company has now launched its JSVP2P positive rake profiling toolholder. With the company’s P2 cutting edge style, this new offering has a 117.5-degree lead angle.
