Successful aerospace firm expands precision engineering skills

Story added 13 January 2009.

A precision engineering firm in the West Midlands which specialises in aerospace technology has invested £1.85 million into expanding its computer-aided manufacturing facility.

In a piece for the Coventry Telegraph, it was reported that Arrowsmith Engineering, which employs 35 people in the area, has joined forces with the Manufacturing Advisory Service and Coventry city council to fight the economic downturn through a big upgrade to its workshop.

Director of the company Jason Aldridge stated that "British engineering has shown it's good at the highly-skilled low volume end of engineering - and that's where our strength is".

Highlighting the importance of CNC lathes and other precision engineering machinery in the trade, he said: "If you want to compete, you have to invest in machinery, plant and people."

Arrowsmith specialises in the production of nimonics, titanium, stainless steels, machined plastics and magnesium, as well as CNC lathe and milling technology for aeroplanes.
