Trade minister calls upon precision engineering industry

The trade minister, Lord Davies of Abersoch, has called upon the abilities of manufacturing firms, including those in the precision engineering sector, to lead the UK out of recession.

Making his comments at the UK Trade and Investment event in London recently, Lord Davies noted that with the likes of Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover already leading the way in the modern market, other advanced technology companies needed to back them up and help the UK economy.

He said: "Advanced engineering is integral to the UK's success and, like all other business sectors, it must continue to embrace global markets - that is where growth in demand is going to come from."

Lord Davies added that through exporting, businesses such as precision engineering firms can emerge stronger from the downturn and address the major environmental and economic issues which the 21st century brings.

Lord Davies works in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office alongside David Miliband, Caroline Flint and Bill Rammell.
