Vargus and Widia Tooling Innovations in UK Launch

Story added 23 January 2012.

Vargus Tooling UK will use MACH to announce a host of new additions to its renowned range of thread generation tooling. Also on the stand will be a comprehensive selection of the new drills and taps, indexable milling tools and turning products from Widia, which Vargus handles as Master Distributor for the UK and Ireland.

Included in the new Vargus products being displayed at the NEC will be Groovex grooving solutions, TMSD indexable carbide insert tooling for gear manufacturers, and 14D carbide inserts for the generation of threads in API round casings and tubings, as well as API buttress casings.

The groundbreaking range of Vargus Groovex high-performance grooving solutions – for all industry sectors - embraces:

[] GM Solid – four cutting edges (flutes) in one tool, for applications with groove widths/depths of, respectively, 0.7 mm - 2 mm and up to 1.5 mm. GM Solid is available in bore diameters from 6 mm.

[] Mini-V – ideal for small/medium bores - featuring a new clamping system for both carbide and steel shank toolholders, plus high-precision indexable inserts for grooving, boring and threading. Available in bore diameters of 8 mm to 16 mm.

[] GM Slot – an innovative three-flute tool with unique clamping system that accommodates indexable inserts with different profiles (for grooving and chamfering), available in bore diameters from 12.7 mm and for groove widths/depths of 1.2 mm to 4 mm and up to 3.25 mm, respectively.

[] Microscope micro tools for small bores (down to 1 mm), also including a range of square shank toolholders specifically for Swiss autos.

[] SGM (Shallow Groove Milling) tools for large diameter work – minimum bore diameters of 40 mm – and targeted at the production of groove widths from 1.25 mm to 4.7 mm and up to 3.8 mm deep.

[] Laydown grooving – available in a wide range of sizes and profiles for external and internal applications. Groove depths of 0.35 mm to 2 mm and widths of 1.19 mm to 2.24 mm can be tackled.

Affordable by companies of every size across all industry sectors, TMSD indexable carbide insert tooling offers manufacturers of gears, splines and racks a range of unrivalled advantages compared with conventional hobbing and other gear production routines.

TMSD can slash machining and set-up times by at least 50 per cent while also generating superior quality finished machined components due to the higher cutting speeds than possible with HSS tooling and the elimination of subsequent finish grinding or shaving routines.

TMSD is suited to the machining of both straight and helical teeth gears, and gear modules from 1 mm to 6 mm. All materials can be accommodated.

Vargus Tooling’s new 14D range of carbide inserts is specifically designed for the generation of threads in API round casings and tubings, and API buttress casings, that are produced for the oil and gas production industries. 14D is targeted at the super-fast machining of high-accuracy threads in components with diameters from 2 3/8 inches upwards.

Completing the display of new products, Vargus Tooling UK will also be showing a number of Widia innovations:

[] High-performance HSS-E taps (Series GTD, for example, for steel and stainless applications), Top Drills and the new multi-application VariDrill;

[] New turning grades (WP15CT/25CT/35CT for machining stainless steel) in the Victory range – plus the TN7100 series of carbide-coated inserts that produce exceptional benefits (higher metal removal rate, improved surface finish, longer tool life) when machining both alloyed and unalloyed steels; and

[] Additions to the M Series indexable milling product portfolio – for example, with 12 cutting edges the M1200 series performs at higher speeds and feeds and lower power consumption compared to double-sided alternatives.

Vargus Tooling’s Shaviv hand deburring tools will also be available at MACH.
