World's largest CNC machines hit south of England

Story added 29 January 2009.

A global leader in large-scale CNC lathe-led precision engineering projects has announced its intentions to take its machine tools to the south of England.

Two huge CNC routing machines will be installed in the Dorset coastal town of Poole, with both being over 60m long.

Managing director of mouldCAM Toby Whitfield said of the move: "We've been supporting European demand for CNC tooling from our operations in Australia and New Zealand but felt the time was right to establish a world-class centre for technology excellence here in the south."

He added that the company hopes to become closer to several key clients as well as become the centre of a hub for precision engineering in the UK, particularly in the marine and superyacht industries.

Jaime Marina and Toby Whitfield founded mouldCAM in 2001 after meeting on the professional yacht racing circuit in the 1980s, taking on their first project in March 2002.
