With the TENDO-E Compact, SCHUNK has started a new era in tool clamping. For the first time ever, hydraulic expansion toolholders can safely transfer torques of up to 520Nm at a 20mm clamping diameter. This enables the toolholders to conduct cutting at extremely high material removal rates.
With its excellent vibration damping and a very precise runout accuracy of less than 0.003mm at 2.5 X D, the precision mounting prevents the spindle and the cutting edge from damage. The attractively-priced hydraulic expansion toolholder works well across the application range from rough milling to finish machining operations such as drilling and reaming.
Users who have previously used Weldon or heat shrink toolholders can now breathe a sigh of relief. In roughing operations, tool cost savings of up to 40% can be achieved if a TENDO-E Compact is used. Tools can be changed quickly with an Allen key, making this powerful hydraulic expansion toolholder an excellent alternative for small and medium-sized companies.
Experienced Operators Show Enthusiasm
Prior to market introduction of the precision toolholder, SCHUNK asked machine shop operators to test them. Most machine operators were astonished that a hydraulic expansion toolholder could achieve such high holding forces. Even if deep grooves are rough machined from the material, the TENDO-E Compact guarantees safe and precise clamping of the tool shank. The TENDO-E Compact also offers remarkable vibration damping characteristics and this makes machining operations extremely quiet whilst improving surface finishes with its rigidity.
The price of the TENDO E Compact is situated between mechanical toolholders and established hydraulic expansion toolholders, making it a worthwhile investment for the user of Weldon or heat shrink toolholders to trade their equipment in for the more precise TENDO-E Compact toolholder.
Mountings are available for the HSK-A63, SK40, and BT40 interfaces at a clamping diameter of 20mm. BT50 and SK50 variants are being added to the range in the near future with 12, 20 and 32mm diameters becoming available across the five spindle interfaces soon. In the meantime, the use of intermediate sleeves will cover the complete clamping range.
