New 10,000 inline Direct Drive Spindles on Haas Machine Tools

Story added 01 June 2010.

Time is money in the CNC machining business. The more material a machine removes in a given amount of time, the more profit goes to the bottom line. Many of today’s industries, especially aerospace, are trending toward monolithic structures that require extensive material removal.

The new 10,000-rpm inline direct-drive 50-taper spindle from Haas Automation, Inc., provides the speed necessary for high-speed CNC machining, and the high-rpm power needed to achieve heavy material-removal rates.

Available for Haas VF-3YT, VF-5, and VF-6 machining centres, the 10,000-rpm inline direct-drive system couples the motor directly to the spindle to provide fine surface finishes, extreme thermal stability, and quiet operation. Driven by a 45 hp vector drive system, the spindle yields 170 ft-lb of torque at 1400 rpm, and has a peak power rating of 60 hp at 7000 rpm.
