New vertical machining centre launched by Haas

Story added 21 September 2009.

Large-travel machining centres are reported to be in demand, with Haas Automation responding to this perceived popularity with a new offering.

The precision engineering organisation said the new VF-12 vertical machining centre "easily accommodates" large-volume machining required for meeting needs in sectors including aerospace, automotive and mould/die industries.

According to the organisation, the VF-12 can travel in XYZ dimensions of 3810 x 813 x 762mm and has a 3810 x 711 mm T-slot table with spindle speeds of up to 10,000rpm.

This 10,000rpm spindle is used for high-speed work while a two-speed geared-head spindle yielding 250 ft lb of torque is available for 7500rpm and 10,000rpm set-ups.

A side-mount tool changer, programmable coolant nozzle, chip auger system, 95-gallon flood coolant system and a 15-inch colour LCD monitor with USB port are all fitted as standard to the offering.

Haas was founded by Gene Haas in 1983 and is now the world's largest producer of CNCmachine tools in the Western world.
