One-stop turn-milling technology is the theme for Citizen and Miyano Machinery’s Open House with the launch of the Miyano BNJ-3 Series fixed head turning centre and the first, direct from the assembly lines, of the production versions of the ‘E’ for Evolution Citizen K-16 and L20 sliding head turn-mill centres. All three machine tools are being shown for the first time in Europe as production models.
With a total of seven machine tools from Citizen and Miyano demonstrating the effectiveness of complex machining cycles at the three-day event between 21 and 23 September, high emphasis is being placed on the reduction of non-cutting or ‘dead’ time in a machining cycle. This is being achieved with the latest control and software technology improving overlapping of machine and tool movements plus the effects now possible, to gain significant advantage from some of the latest toolholder and tooling developments.
As managing director Geoff Bryant explains: “In order to help visitors obtain the most from visiting the Open House we have also invited key suppliers from the industry that can help to advance productivity to demonstrate a wide variety of tooling, accessories, automation and software.” The companies include, Sandvik Coromant, Iscar Tools, Floyd Automatic Tooling, Kitagawa/IEMCA, LNS Turbo, Hainbuch and Prospec Systems.
The Miyano BNJ-3 Series with 42 and 51 mm bar capacity will be represented by the BNJ-42SY3 for which the previous generation of machine was a top-seller with over 100 installations in the UK. The new machine with main and subspindle and two turrets has greater power for machining more difficult materials, uses the same turret as the larger Miyano ABX machine to accommodate common tooling. It is fitted with the latest Fanuc control with Miyano tailored interface and the incorporation of Miyano’s ‘Stealth’ thermal stability based technology. For the first time a Miyano machine is carrying Citizen’s renowned software to reduce in-cycle idle time.
The first of the new K- and L- Series of Citizen machines following the showing of pre-production versions at MACH 2010 in June will be demonstrating totally new levels of short cycling able to save between 35 and 60 per cent of idle times due to the latest CPU technology. New control software, machine movements such as direct spindle indexing and improved overlapped functions are also important benefits that are obtainable.
The Citizen K16E-VII has already demonstrated 45 per cent savings on a 45 sec turn-mill cycle against a non-Evolution machine and the new machine tool is able to carry up to 23 tools, has a 3.7 kW, 15,000 revs/min main and 0.75 kW, 10,000 revs/min subspindle. Rapid traverse is 32 m/min with advantageous acceleration/deceleration.
The Streamline technology dynamic software driven Citizen L20E, which replaces the world’s top-selling Citizen L20 sliding head machine, has the flexibility of 32 tools of which 22 can be driven. Such is the versatility of the machine that it can be specified with a bias towards turning and cross-drilling or a greater need for face working. There is also a complete new portfolio of toolholder combinations to enable customisation of the machine for maximum productivity advantage.
Presentations and product demonstrations will also be made by supporting companies at the event on tooling, component inspection and measurement, coolant recovery and swarf management and finance. Warranted, pre-owned Citizens will also be on show in the adjacent Citizen Pre-Owned Centre.
