Tornos launch new automatic Turning Centre at Mach 2010

On stand 5128 at MACH 2010, Tornos Technologies will be giving its new Gamma turning centre its UK exhibition debut. The exciting new automatic turning centre from Tornos is available in three versions to meet the varying needs of the end user.

The Gamma 20 lies between the Delta and the Sigma machines in the Tornos range for complexity. The economic solution for the automotive, medical, electronics and general subcontract industries enables customers to produce relatively complex parts at a low capitol cost. Available with either 5 or 6 linear axis plus two C-axes, the Gamma 20/5 and 20/6 outperform competitor sliding head turning centres measurably.

The new Gamma series offers a machine tool with a comprehensive standard specification at a competitive cost. The simple and ergonomic Gamma 20 offers easy access to all tool positions, an automatic lubrication unit, swarf tray and high volume removable oil pan to improve ease of use for the end user.

The Gamma 20 uses the same barfeed, collets and tooling as the Tornos Delta range and can be used with or without a guide bush to give the customer advantages for short part production. With an integrated Fanuc 31i-A numerical control that facilitates ISO programming, the Gamma offers axial and radial drilling and milling, deep hole and inclined drilling, adaptation for profile bars, a long workpiece device and a motorized guide bush. The Gamma 20/5 allows simultaneous turning and rear-end working with up to 35 tools that includes 11 rotating tools. As an option, the Gamma 20/5 can be fitted with a motor at the rear end to allow 4 rotating tools in place of the fixed units, taking the rotating tool total to 15.

The more capable Gamma 20/6 can be fitted with 39 tools with 15 tools rotating. The Y-axis offers increased machining capability in counter operations to eliminate the need for secondary operations and machines.

The Gamma turning centers deliver a variety of counter spindle operations that are not available on competitor sliding head turning centers. The Gamma enables the end user to utilize the vertical Y-axis on the counter operation post. It also permits vertical numerical setting and machining movement for cross drilling or milling plus simultaneous working operations for cross drilling/milling with a rotating attachment.

The Gamma series has a 3 to 20mm diameter capacity with a fixed guide bush, a motorized guide bush or no guide bush offering a workpiece length capacity of 250, 210 and 45mm respectively. The main and counter spindles both have a maximum speed of 12,000rpm.

As well as demonstrating the exceptional capabilities and competitiveness of the Gamma Series, Tornos will be using MACH to demonstrate its new line of Almac machining centers. The Almac line of high precision machine tools are produced on the same principles as the Tornos range – to offer remarkable precision, capability and accuracy on small to medium sized components.
