Maylan Joins the Network

Maylan Engineering is the latest high tech subcontract manufacturer to join the ever growing MTD Network. Maylan has an enviable reputation as a leading subcontract precision manufacturer that is globally renowned for the quality and precision of its machined components.

Located in Corby, Northamptonshire, Maylan has a plant list that includes high specification CNC turning and machining centres with a turning capacity up to 790mm diameter with a maximum turning length of 4m whilst its 3 and 4-axis machining centres offer a work envelope up to 1.3m by 640mm.

As well as being a prominent subcontract manufacturer, Maylan is also known for its own product, the Maylan Pallet Master. The Pallet Master turns a standard vertical machining centre, into a twin pallet VMC. The Pallet Master dramatically increases productivity, making it a valuable LEAN manufacturing tool. As well being designed to improve profitability, the Pallet Master has proved valuable in reducing operator fatigue.

The unit essentially consists of two, carriage mounted auxiliary pallets that slide horizontally on a floor-mounted frame and a pallet receiver that is bolted securely to the bed of the machine. An experienced operator is able to change pallets by means of this system and restart machining operations in just ten seconds. Installation only takes around three hours to complete. Currently there are seven standard versions of the Maylan Pallet System and bespoke sizes can be designed to order. The standard pallet sizes include a 500 by 400mm unit, a 500 by 500mm, a 600 by 400mm, a 650 by 500mm, a 750 by 500mm a 1m by 500mm and a 1250 by 500mm units as standard. With something for every machine type and size, the Pallet Master typically increases machine tool output in the region of 35%. This can be considerably more depending on cycle and loading times. For more details, contact Maylan Engineering direct or via the MTD Network. You can also view a video of the Pallet Master at http://www.maylan.com/products
