Rainford Puts Union Tools To The Test

Rainford Puts Union Tools To The Test

Added to MTDCNC by Rainford Precision on 04 November 2016

In a recent trial to demonstrate the performance of the Union Tool range of end mills, Rainford Precision machined a demo part from Ramax, a 32HRC steel with particularly challenging characteristics.

To highlight the rigidity, surface finishes, tool life and performance of the new CXLRS 5060-05-26 end mill, Rainford ran the 6mm diameter tool at 14,000rpm with a feed rate of 7m/min. The four flute end mill with a 0.5mm corner radius, 24mm clearance length and 12mm flute length was pushed on a GF VCE800W Pro machining centre that worked in conjunction with Delcam's Vortex machining strategy.

Matching the high performance machining centre and the optimum CAM machining strategy, the long neck CXLRS corner radius tool from Union Tool removed this challenging material at a rate of 42cm3/min. The complete machining time for the removal of 2,000cm3 was just one hour and 27 minutes, an extremely impressive time and material removal rate for a 6mm diameter end mill.

Furthermore, the UT coated tool showed little sign of wear whilst the surface finish of the test part was exceptional. For further details on how you can obtain such impressive material removal rates with unparalleled tool life, please contact Rainford Precision.
