Seco introduces Duratomic grade for challenging hole-making

Added to MTDCNC by MTDCNC on 31 July 2012

Seco Tools (UK), the leading manufacturer and supplier of carbide cutting tools and tooling systems solutions has introduced a new Duratomic® grade that combines improved heat and wear resistance with high strength making it ideally suited to drilling applications across a wide variety of materials.

Developed for use with Seco Perfomax® indexable drills, the new DP3000 grade&rsquos properties provide customers with high productivity and reliable and cost-effective performance, even in challenging and demanding machining environments where component features such as angled entrances exist, and where heavy-duty machining conditions, often involving interrupted cuts, are prevalent.

Available in all Perfomax® geometries and sizes, DP3000 increases tool life and allows more aggressive and ambitious cutting data to be used so as to reduce cycle times and increase productivity.

The grade&rsquos balance of toughness and strength are the result of having increased Cobalt content near the surface of the coupled with a Duratomic® coating &ndash comprising titanium carbon nitride (TiCN) for toughness, and aluminium oxide (Al2O3) for heat and wear resistance.

Seco&rsquos Perfomax® drills feature strong square s that offer good rigidity and high stability. Their low friction coating and unique chip flute design optimises chip removal rates - boosting productivity and improving process reliability.

The tools&rsquo versatility also helps customers reduce their inventory and production costs.

Seco&rsquos proprietary Duratomic® process involves manipulating elements at an atomic level to create a harder, tougher and smoother surface. This creates direct benefits and improvements in productivity, surface finish, tool life and overall cutting capability.

In addition to increasing the physical durability of the , Duratomic® technology also provides superior thermal control to maximise process stability still further.
