Seco’s new Jetstream Tooling® Duo improves turning performance

Added to MTDCNC by Seco Tools (UK) Ltd on 04 March 2014

Seco Tools (UK) Ltd, a leading supplier of complete machining solutions to the metal-cutting industry, has introduced its new, advanced Jetstream Tooling Duo technology into the market.

Designed for turning applications that involve hard and difficult-to-machine materials like titanium and superalloys, the new technology sees the introduction of additional and specifically-positioned coolant jets aimed at the cutting zone.

Directing coolant into the heat-affected zone from different directions removes heat quickly and more efficiently and enables customers to achieve higher cutting speeds, reduce tool wear, improve chip evacuation and, generally, improve productivity and work-piece quality.

Jetstream Tooling Duo technology is all about precision and performance.

The upper jet accurately directs coolant to the optimal point of the rake face, whilst additional jets flush the clearance surface. As a result, the cutting edge receives high-pressure coolant from two directions – above and below – optimising chip flow as well as reducing the temperature in the cutting zone.

By adding additional coolant jets to its Jetstream Tooling solution, customers are able to increase tool life by 10 percent or more, as well as achieve better surface finishes.

The new solution also includes a second inducer option to improve performance during roughing operations where additional power is required on the chip side - and in applications where chips tend to hit the inducer. This option is in addition to the standard mounted inducer for finishing and medium-roughing operations.

Seco uses an extremely reliable P-holder lever design on its Jetstream Tooling Duo technology to provide rigid locking of the insert and to achieve high repeatability in insert indexation. With improved rigidity, manufacturers can increase depths of cut, employ higher feed rates and improve part quality.

Jetstream Tooling Duo is available for negative type inserts, including CNxx, WNxx, SNxx, DNxx and TNxx.
