TaeguTec Drills Into The Issues Of CFRP With New Drilling Line

TaeguTec Drills Into The Issues Of CFRP With New Drilling Line

Added to MTDCNC by Taegutec on 27 October 2016

Drilling composite materials is a challenge that has now been simplified by Korean cutting tool specialist TaeguTec with its new line of CDF drills. The exceptional CDF Series incorporates a double-diameter cutting edge geometry that eradicates the issue of de-lamination when drilling CFRP materials.

De-lamination and edge finish are a major concern for aerospace, motorsport and power generation customers that are frequently processing CFRP materials. The CDF Series eliminates this concern with an innovative geometry that incorporates a 110 degree point angle and a stepped drill diameter that minimises the burr edge upon exit.

The tool life of the solid carbide drills is guaranteed by the TTD610 diamond coating. This advanced nano diamond coating provides longer tool life and machining stability on extremely abrasive CFRP materials. Furthermore, the nano coating offers the highest possible thermal conductivity, which is essential for dissipating heat when processing abrasive materials that almost instantly induce tool wear through frictional heat generation. With a hardness of beyond Hv 8000, the abrasive wear resistance of the CDF drills will provide tool life and consistent performance far beyond competitor drilling lines.  As an added benefit, the nano diamond coating enhances the impact resistance and processing stability of the CDF line.

The new range of straight shank drills is available in diameters of 3 to 12mm in 1mm increments with 4.76, 6.35, 7.94, 9.52, 11.11 and 12.7mm diameters also available. These less common diameters are the metric equivalent of the imperial 3/16, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16 and 1/2 inch sizes that are also available. With the US being the world leading aerospace manufacturer, TaeguTec is offering the imperial diameter range to accommodate the demands of this sector. The CDF drills are supplied with a 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14mm shank diameter and an overall length from 72 to 119mm. For further details contact TaeguTec.
