ITC Introduce Widia Hanita range of 4777 and 4778 Varimill cutters

Since the launch of the new Slimline catalogue from Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC), the Tamworth based cutting tool manufacturer has noted increased orders for the Widia range of solid carbide drills and cutting tools available from the catalogue.

Available to ITC customers since the signing of a distribution agreement at the end of 2012; particular interest has been received for the Widia Hanita range of 4777 and 4778 Varimill cutters. The center cutting solid carbide end mills incorporate an innovative unequal flute spacing that creates a harmonic effect to significantly reduce vibration as well as improve tool life and surface finishes when machining at high speeds and feeds.

With cutting diameters including 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm and respective shank diameters from 6 to 20mm, the 4777 and 4778 Series both have maximum length of cut from 12 to 38mm on shank lengths from 55 to 104mm. This optimal flute length and shank diameter combination, ensures the 4777 and 4778 Series both deliver remarkable tool life and productivity when machining anything from steel and stainless steels through to cast iron, non-ferrous materials, hard materials and high temperature alloys that are commonplace in the aerospace industry.

Already established in the marketplace, the Hanita 4777 is available with a square end, a radius or a corner chamfer for enhanced tool life and productivity that is created by the reduced potential for edge chipping. Incorporating a TiAlN coating on a micro grain carbide substrate that delivers the perfect balance of edge toughness and wear resistance, the 4777 Series is a high performance end mill for a multitude of materials and applications - making it a true all-rounder for general subcontract machine shops. Capable of cutting at speeds of 25 to 200m/min depending upon material, the diverse application range of the 4777 enables end users to reduce their tooling inventory with an end mill that is ideal for side milling, slotting and general machining with high material removal rates.

Alongside, the exceptional 4777 Series, the new 4778 has been developed more for machining high temperature alloys and particularly difficult to machine steels. The AlTiN coating on the 4778 Series enables it to work at cutting speeds beyond 100m/min at depths of cut up to 1.5XD on some of the most difficult to machine alloys known to the industry. To optimise the tool life of the Hanita 4778 range, the cutters incorporate a corner radius of 0.2 or 0.3mm as standard, depending upon cutter diameter.  

Both the 4777 and 4778  have a 38 degree flute angle that is polished to enhance the efficient removal of swarf from the cutting edge. This combination of flute geometry and smooth finish allows the Hanita cutters from ITC to perform at metal removal parameters far beyond that of alternate cutting tools.
