WNT's C900 simplifies hole production

Added to MTDCNC by WNT (UK) Ltd on 28 January 2014

WNT (UK)’s high-performance, indexable insert drilling system, the C900 High Feed Drill has been enhanced with the option of new standard drill lengths of 3x, 4x, and 5x diameter. Drill diameters start at 14 mm for all lengths and up to 63 mm diameter in the case of 3x diameter drills, with the longer diameter to length ratios going up to 54 mm and 41 mm respectively.

The C900 High Feed Drills deliver exceptional performance, even at these longer lengths thanks to the design of the drill body and insert pockets that create a platform to maximise process security and feedrates, even at depths of 5 x diameter. The design of the drill body work in conjunction with the insert geometry to give maximum chip flow. WNT has developed C900 High Feed Drill to use identical inserts in the peripheral and central insert pockets. This greatly reduces inventory and manufacturing costs for users, and also simplifies the tool set-up as the operator does not have to identify the correct insert for each position. Further simplifying matters is the universal carbide grade that covers all drilling applications.

By making use of just one insert design, one grade of carbide and one geometry, WNT (UK) is helping to drive down manufacturing costs, without impacting on productivity. Each insert features four cutting edges and is manufactured from the CCN 1430 PVD coated carbide grade, which provides the optimum combination of toughness and wear resistance required for the drilling process. This combination also gives the C900 High Feed Drill good drilling performance and high process stability, even under difficult drilling conditions. It performs well in applications requiring holes in uneven, inclined, or convex surfaces; and components with cross holes, welded seams, and chain drilling operations pose little problems.

'The development of the C900 High Feed Drill range adds much greater versatility to the WNT indexable insert drill range and will help support our customers in their drive for greater efficiencies and cost savings,” says Tony Pennington, Managing Director, WNT (UK).
