WNT’s range of HCN 2125 inserts deliver increases in tool life

When first introduced WNT’s range of HCN 2125 indexable inserts for stainless steel turning led to dramatic increases in tool life and similar decreases in cycle times due to their new carbide substrate and Dragonskin PVD coating. The original series of negative geometry inserts has now been expanded with the addition of positive geometries, that open up even more potential for productivity improvement.
The new series of positive inserts comes with a choice of two geometries. For fine finishing there is the -PF23 geometry that achieves maximum surface quality and precision, with depths of cut between 0,2 - 3,4 mm and feedrates of 0,06 - 0,28 mm/rev. Where higher metal removal rates are required the choice is the -PF26 universal geometry, which generates low cutting forces and is capable of light interrupted cuts at depths of cut between 0,4 - 4,8 mm and feedrates of 0,06 - 0,35 mm.

With correct application these new inserts can achieve tool life improvements of  as much as 100 per cent, in addition to increased cutting data, as these figures show when machining a component from 1.4301 (X5CrNi18-10) / AISI 304 stainless steel using combined longitudinal and face turning. HCN 2125inserts with the positive –PF23 geometry achieved cutting data of Vc = 150 m/min (50 per cent higher than the competitor insert), ap = 0.20 mm and f = 0,18 mm/rev (20 per cent higher than the competitor insert) and tool life increased by 100 per cent! For customers machining Stainless steel, Austenitic, Ferritic, Martensitic or Duplex materials HCN 2125 delivers these significant gains thanks to its new carbide substrate and Dragonskin PVD tool coating which provide HCN 2125 inserts with exceptional wear resistance at elevated cutting data.
