IMTS Chicago Exhibition less than one month away

In September 2012 Chicago, Illinois, will host the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS).  The event, now sponsored by the Association for Manufacturing Technology, traces its roots back to 1927 and the first National Machine Tool Builders’ Exposition.

Now the IMTS attracts delegates from all corners of the globe.  The number of companies attending is itself a good indicator of how the manufacturing industry at large is performing.  In 2008, before the effects of the financial crash had properly taken hold, 1,803 companies exhibited, with the show’s physical footprint extending to a mammoth 1.2 square feet.

The exhibition, beginning this year on 11 September and running for five days, will be held in the McCormick Place complex in the city’s Near South Side region.  Over 100 countries will be represented with up to 80,000 buyers expected.

As with any trade show of this scale there are many advantages to businesses attending.  Not only can you network with industry experts it’s also likely you’ll witness a panoply of product launches.  For example many computer software packages and innovative machine tools receive their first airings at the IMTS.

Given the size of the show it’s no surprise that its exhibitions are categorised into several sub-divisions, known as Pavilions.  These include: Metal Cutting Tooling and Workholding Systems; Metal Forming and Fabricating/Laser Processes; Abrasive Machining/Sawing/Finishing and many more.

As for the conferences that run during the show, these are also divided into tracks, namely: Manufacturing Technology, the Materials, Alternative Manufacturing Processes, Metrology/Quality and Plant Operations.

For the first time this year there will be an IMTS Job Center where potential workers can show off their CVs and employers can fill their vacancies.  Advice will also be given by the Center’s organiser Trillium CNC / CNC Jobs on how to recruit top-level experts to fill technical positions.

There will be plenty of glamour at the IMTS 2012’s Advanced Manufacturing Centre.  Lotus, for example, will be showcasing their shiny new Formula One Race Car and plane-makers Boeing will also be present demonstrating their latest creations.

Or if it’s a glimpse of the future you’re after then visit the Emerging Technology Center. The latest in developments the exciting and innovative world of 3D printing will be on show, as will more specialist business intelligence products and concepts.

The show really does cater for everyone with an interest in the latest trends in manufacturing technologies.
