The team at WNT (UK) are always up for a challenge and at the same time they are happy to put their pain to good use in supporting charities close to their hearts. Therefore, a 220 mile cycle ride across some of Englands roughest terrain enabled Gary Brodrick and Shaun Thornton to combine their love of mountain biking and raising some serious cash.

Raising £1,297 for Cancer Research UK Gary and Shaun, who are Technical Sales Engineers with the Sheffield based cutting tool specialist were supported on their journey by Tony Pennington, WNT (UK)&rsquos managing director, who is fast becoming a veteran of these rides, having completed three to date, including two within the past two months, and Richard Bower, a maintenance sub-contractor for WNT.

The ride was completed in less than four days of cycling across three National Parks (Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and The North York Moors). The route itself was devised by the late Alfred Wainwright, the popular Lakeland author and was initially stated as being 192 miles in length, the true distance is claimed to be 220 miles, depending on who is navigating.

&ldquoHaving listened to Tonys description of the ride a few of us pledged to emulate him, says Gary Brodrick, Cycling is really popular among the team at WNT and this has to be one of the toughest challenges there is, but I am sure that others from WNT will be following in our tyre tracks.

It was good to see the north sea coast at the end of this journey, but raising the money for Cancer Research makes the aches and pains seem almost worth it, and going that extra mile for charity is a great way to spend a few days, Says Shaun Thornton.
