Guhring Appoints New Managing Director

Guhring Ltd has appointed Chris Weston as the new Managing Director with effect from 1 July 2018. The new appointment will see Chris replace Mike Dinsdale, the outgoing Managing Director that has worked at Guhring for almost 40 years.

Taking over the role from Mr Dinsdale who retires at the end of the year, Chris will call upon his 19 years of Guhring employment to further develop and grow the company. Since joining Guhring in 1999, Chris has been involved in all aspects of the business from sales, project engineering, production management and more recently as General Manager. This extensive experience in all facets of the Guhring business places Chris in an ideal position to drive the business forward.

In 2017, Guhring Ltd moved to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Birmingham and Chris and his team were instrumental in the construction and delivery of the new 55,000sq/ft, high technology facility. Incorporating the very latest plant, equipment and facilities, the new factory has given Guhring a platform to drive growth for the long-term future.

Since the opening of the new facility, Guhring has increased its staff numbers by 15% to 87 people and UK cutting tool production and sales have both increased significantly. Commenting on his appointment and the future growth of Guhring, Chris Weston says: “I am delighted to accept this position at such a pivotal time for the company. We have a new factory that sets the foundations in-place for future growth and this is certainly an exciting period for Guhring, its staff and of course the customer base. We now have the latest in-house manufacturing capability to design, develop, manufacture and service precision HSS, Carbide and PCD/CBN cutting tools. In addition to our impressive manufacturing capabilities and service, we are proud to offer over £3.5m of tooling from stock. This provides immediate availability on standard tools and also short delivery on special tools.”

“As we look to the future, the sheer complexity and diversity of product choice from Guhring and the availability of bespoke product solutions has prompted us to open an internal Training Academy. Working in close partnership with the Engineering Technology Group (ETG), Guhring has installed machine tools to provide an in-house training, trial and demonstration suite. This will support our in-house product development whilst offering customers access to a first-class environment to conduct trials. I would like to thank Mike for his lifelong commitment to Guhring and steering the company to its current position. The next chapter of the Guhring story started in 2017 with a new factory; and with dedicated, enthusiastic and technically astute staff, the future certainly looks bright,” concludes Mr Weston.
