Dyson unveils electric vehicle plans

Dyson has unveiled expansion plans to accommodate more than 2,000 workers by more than doubling capacity for electric-vehicle testing. The company has submitted plans to spend upwards of £200m to expand the test facility on a former second world war airfield at Hullavington, near Malmesbury.

The £200m investment in a 480,000sq/ft Wiltshire campus is part of the next phase of Dyson’s electric vehicle development programme. If approved, the site will include 10 miles of test tracks for electric vehicles as well as development space to accommodate more than 2,000 staff.

To date, Dyson has invested £84m into its new technology centre and more than 300 of Dyson's automotive team has moved to the advanced automotive space. 

Jim Rowan, Dyson Chief Executive, said: "Our growing automotive team is now working from Dyson’s state-of-the-art hangars at Hullavington Airfield. It will quickly become a world-class vehicle testing campus where we hope to invest £200m, creating more high-skilled jobs for Britain. We are now firmly focused on the next stage of our automotive project strengthening our credentials as a global research and development organisation."
