A Masterstroke from Mills CNC

Mills CNC’s ‘Strokes of Genius…LIVE’ Open House pulls in more than 200 visitors and generates significant new machine tool sales and enquiries.

Mills CNC, the exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland, has reported that its recently held ‘Strokes of Genius…LIVE’ Open House (18th & 19th October) was a huge success with over 200 visitors attending the event over the two days.

Taking place at the company’s Technology Campus facility in Leamington, Mills used the Open House, to showcase a number of new Doosan machines to UK and Irish manufacturers (many of which were making their UK debuts at the event), and to promote a range of recently-introduced technology and service innovations to visitors.

Comments Kevin Gilbert, Mills CNC’s managing director:

“Our ‘Strokes of Genius…LIVE’ Open House surpassed all expectations and visitor numbers were much higher than anticipated.

“As well as generating significant machine tool sales during the two day event the number of serious and genuine sales leads and enquiries taken at the Open House was also particularly encouraging – especially as a high percentage of these came from new customers (OEMS through to precision subcontractors) visiting the Campus for the very first time.”

Highlights of the Open House included a number of new Doosan machine tools making their debuts at the event with pride of place going to the new Doosan Puma 2600SY Mk II – a 10” chuck sub-spindle, Y-axis lathe that has replaced the ever-popular and best-selling Puma 2600SY Mk I series.

Other technology highlights at the event included a number of challenging and innovative machining demonstrations.

Amongst these was an automation demonstration involving a DNM 5700 vertical machining centre integrated with a ROBOJOB automated workpiece loading/unloading system, and two 5-axis machining demonstrations taking place on a Doosan VC630 5AX and a Doosan DNM350 5AX.

In total there were 16 machining demonstrations organised for the event.

Explains Kevin Gilbert:

“Our Doosan multi-tasking turning centres and multi-axis (5-axis) machining centres certainly proved popular with visitors, and reflects the growing demand amongst UK and Irish component manufacturers to invest in high-productivity machine tools.”

In addition to showcasing its range of Doosan machines Mills also used the Open House to demonstrate the power, flexibility, functionality and convenience of Siemens’ Sinumerik 828D TFT touchscreen control technology.

Concludes Kevin Gilbert:

“The high visitor numbers at the Open House is proof-positive that new, innovative and exciting technologies definitely capture the imagination of component manufacturers.

“Over the next few days we will be following-up the many leads taken during the event and, looking to the future, we will now be focusing our attention on next year’s MACH 2018 Show where we (once again) have one of the largest stands and where we will be exhibiting 16 Doosan machines to visitors.”
