The Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, hailed the contribution of Yamazaki Mazak to the UK’s exports at the recent Manufacturing Summit.

Accompanied by the Business Secretary, Dr Vince Cable and Coventry and Warwickshire LEP Chairman Sir Peter Rigby, the Deputy Prime Minister took time to visit the Mazak exhibit at the summit.

Dr Cable, who had previously visited Mazak’s European HQ in Worcester, introduced the Deputy Prime Minister to Dr Damien Cleugh, Head of Marketing Mazak Europe.

'The Deputy Prime Minister showed keen interest in Mazak’s design capabilities and our continuous investment in the machine tool manufacturing plant.' commented Dr Cleugh.  'I informed him that all the necessary facilities for R&D, production and service are on one site, which enables us to provide a complete end-to-end solution from design through to aftersales for our customers.'

'In light of the fact that 85 per cent of the factory’s output is exported to the EU, the Deputy Prime Minister also enquired about trading conditions in the EU.  We informed him that 2012 was a very successful year for the company despite the challenging economic environment.  In addition, Mazak’s continuous investment in manufacturing and customer support enabled us to win significant business and successful sales in the UK market'.

The Manufacturing Summit was organised by the Department of Business Innovation & Skills (BIS) and was held at the Heritage Motor Museum at Gaydon in Warwickshire.  The event was attended by some of the biggest and most successful UK manufacturing companies with the aim of forging closer links between the government and manufacturing industry.
