Mills CNC confirms Autumn 2012 launch for Doosan&rsquos new, heavy duty, box guideway range of Puma 8 chuck size CNC lathes.

Mills CNC, the exclusive distributor of Doosan machine tools in the UK and Ireland, has announced that the much-awaited launch of its new Puma GT2100 range of heavy duty, box guideway lathes will occur in the late Autumn of this year.

The introduction and availability of the Puma GT2100 and Puma GT2100M machines is good news for precision manufacturers looking to acquire a compact (small footprint), reliable and flexible high-performance 8 inch chuck/65mm bar capacity lathe which offers heavy duty machining capability.

The Puma GT2100 range replaces and indeed is more sophisticated than Doosan&rsquos older Puma 240 range of machines which has now been phased out, and features 2 models the standard GT2100 machine and the GT2100M machine which has driven tooling capability (5.5kW 5,000rpm).

Both of the new machines are equipped with a powerful 4.500rpm main spindle with 18.5kW power / 313Nm torque, and have a 12-station servo-driven turret (0.15 second indexing time), as well as rapid rates of 24m/min on the machines X-axes and 30m/min on the machines&rsquo Z-axes.

Maximum work-piece capacity varies and is model-specific. Both machines offer 560mm workpiece length capacity, with the GT2100 offering maximum machining diameter of 390mm and the GT2100M 350mm diameter.

Specific advantages that the new GT2100 range has over the previous Puma 240-series include the following:

Compact footprint:

The new machines have a compact footprint that is 24% smaller than the previous Doosan model.

Ergonomic design:

Operator visibility and work-piece accessibility have both been improved which help increase productivity and performance.

Spindle transmission optimisation:

A re-design and reduction in length of the machines&rsquo spindle drive belt reduces noise, vibration and heat generation, ensuring improved part accuracies and a more reliable and repeatable machining process

The machines will be supplied into the UK market with a high standard specification that includes:

- Automatic tool setter
- Automatic parts catcher
- Automatic tow-along hydraulic tailstock
- Full turret toolholder package including 4 off milling tool holders for the M version model
- Doosan-Fanuc CNC with 10.4&rdquo colour screen
- Manual Guide i operator programming function
- Tool load monitor

Says Andrew Jack, Mills Technical Director:

The new GT2100 and GT2100M are destined to become best-selling machines, not only in the UK, but across the global market. They offer an unsurpassed level of machining performance in the 8 inch chuck size CNC lathe category for those customers who need a high power / torque and heavy duty box guideway turning solution.
