Three years after Dugard introduced its range of heavy duty VMCs with an innovative reverse axis table design, the Hove based company has launched its new line of   LB Series double column machining centres.

Developed to provide the marketplace with an exceptionally heavy duty capacity at a competitive price, all the LB models feature a massive machine structure with a powerful geared head that makes the line-up perfect for heavy duty and high efficiency cutting.  This new series offers power and precision and for extra functionality, every machine in the range has an optional manual or semi-automatic 90° horizontal milling head for 5-axis machining

The new series of powerful machines provide a  2200 to 4200mm X-axis travel with optional Y-axis travels of 1200, 1600 & 2700mm, depending upon which of the six model variations you select. The machines also have a  Z-axis travel of 900mm as standard with up to 1100mm as an option.  Two configurations of spindle are available throughout the entire LB range , a BT50 6000rpm with a 2 step gearbox giving a massive 757Nm torque or the BT50 10,000rpm direct drive for high speed applications.  As well as the remarkable power, torque and speed options, the range has a particularly large table capacity up to 15,000kg, so a wide range of components and materials can be accommodated.  Heavy duty cutting demands superior rigidity and this is ensured by the Z-axis boxway design and the availability of - axis roller type linear ways.

The spindle overhang has been reduced on the LB Series to increase rigidity, reduce vibration and improve surface finishes, cutting performance and accuracy.  The X-axis is designed with 4 linear ways - 2 inboard ways are roller type, giving superb geometry control with 2 outboard ball type ways to fully support the table and minimise deflection. The X, Y and Z axis ballscrews are refrigerated by a coolant through ballscrew system to eliminate inaccuracy caused by thermal displacement.
 
From an ease of use perspective, the LB machines are available with either a Fanuc 0iMD, Heidenhain iTNC 530 or Siemens 828D control unit.
