600UK tops the class with a new lathe that's an education

Added to MTDCNC by 600 UK on 23 October 2015

The new EziTurn lathe was launched in June 2015 solely for the education sector with the strap-line of 'Engineered to Educate'. New from 600UK, the new EziTurn lathe has been developed to bridge the gap between the conventional lathe and the semi-automatic machine.

600UK Application Engineer Mr Trevor Matthews tells MTD: 'What we wanted to develop was something even more simple than our base line Alpha system. So, what we have with the EziTurn is a semi-automatic lathe that doesn't have the complication of geometry and wear off-sets, compensation or a tool library to edit. Its very, very simple. At the moment, we only have one model that has a 1m bed. In future, if industry would like to look at the feasibility of this machine, we can always look at developing the EziTurn for industry.'

The EziTurn has a touch-screen control that enables the end user to do stops, tapers, drilling, threading, internal tapers and turning. One way to put it, this machine can only use a single tool.

Trevor continues: 'Somebody could come along and very quickly be using this machine. A complete novice could be turning out parts with less than half a day training, which is ideal for students. The machine has an X and Z axis pulse generator and auto rapid axis feed as well a potentiometer and speed control for feeds and a start-stop handle. These are common features on standard lathes and a necessity for the student to gain familiarity. We are very excited about the potential for this new EziTurn range.'
