ETG now to represent Hardinge and Bridgeport

ETG now to represent Hardinge and Bridgeport

Added to MTDCNC by MTDCNC on 15 March 2013

The Engineering Technology Group and Hardinge have reached a landmark sales, service and customer support agreement for Hardinge and Bridgeport machine tools and workholding equipment.

Under the agreement, Hardinge will transfer its UK sales, service and customer support activities for these products to ETG Bridgeport part of the Warwickshire-based Engineering Technology Group. The move reflects the global strategy of Hardinge Inc to concentrate its activities on the development and manufacture of its ‘best-in-class’ product ranges. The Engineering Technology Group is a specialist in providing full-life-cycle customer support for world-leading machine tool brands and was seen by Hardinge as the ideal partner for this transition in the UK.

The current Hardinge UK personnel engaged in sales-related activities, including the seven-strong sales force, have transferred to ETG Bridgeport. Other personnel will move to the Group’s facilities in Southam and Coventry over the coming months.

As with the other manufacturers it represents, the Engineering Technology Group has created a dedicated subsidiary company 'ETG Bridgeport' for the Hardinge and Bridgeport products. This reflects its philosophy whereby each member of the group operates as an individual business – offering the in-depth product knowledge customers would expect from a specialist supplier – but benefits from a core organization that provides the central resources, expertise and services that a large company can provide.

The wide range of Hardinge Bridgeport machine tools, together with the extensive servicing, workholding and technical support that customers have come to expect, will be enhanced.. Customers will also be able to access the ShopHardinge on-line store as normal.

The extensive Hardinge workholding portfolio is an ideal complement to the capabilities of Hyfore Engineering, the Group’s workholding and automation specialist. Together they will further enhance the Group’s ability to deliver application-engineered and turnkey solutions for its customers.

The Engineering Technology Group’s dedicated sales team will be led by newly appointed sales director Martin Doyle.

He said: 'This is a very exciting and positive move for both Hardinge in the UK and The Engineering Technology Group.

'The whole focus at The Engineering Technology Group is on customer service and we intend to offer our customer base a seamless transition to the new arrangement. We have a great team and the combination of the Hardinge presence and the Engineering Technology Group portfolio offers synergies and opportunities for product development and growth.'

John McTernan, managing director European Sales and Marketing for Hardinge Group, said: 'The move to distribution for our direct customer sales and support activities has worked very well around the world and been instrumental in the Hardinge Group success in recent years. We are delighted that we have been able to conclude the arrangement with the Engineering Technology Group and they have our full and committed support.  The strategy we are pursuing enables Hardinge to focus fully on its core activities of new product development and manufacturing for its machine tool and workholding range.'

Engineering Technology Group managing director John Temple, who recently completed a multi-million pound management buy-out of the company, added: 'We are delighted that a company with the global reputation and product range of Hardinge has chosen us as its partner. This new agreement with Hardinge considerably broadens the capabilities of the Group and expands it into new areas with undoubted potential.'
