With sales exceeding 50 machines a day it’s a wonder how HAAS have found time to develop new products. However, this new Y-axis lathe is another example of how this relatively young and ambitious company is building on a strong loyal customer base by providing a quality product at an affordable price, backed up by a unique multi award winning aftersales offering.

HAAS’ all new ST lathe range now includes a small-footprint Y-axis turning centre. The ST-10Y provides ±50.8 mm of Y-axis travel for off-centre milling, drilling, and tapping, and comes standard high-torque live tooling and a servo-driven C axis for versatile 4-axis capability.

Nick Remington, UK managing director, commented, 'Over recent years HAAS has developed its CNC lathes to perform milling operations in addition to traditional turning duties. The ability to turn and mill complex parts and perform multiple operations on one machine increases throughput, reduces handling, improves accuracy and saves floor space.

'Moving a component from one machine to another introduces the possibility of misloads, allowing the Y-axis machine to cut all operations without additional set-ups eliminates the opportunity for these errors to arise. By manufacturing the whole component in one set-up, cycle times can be reduced and a more cost effective component is produced.

'The standard equipment on our ST-10Y includes high-torque live tooling with C axis, rigid tapping and spindle orientation, allowing you to perform significant CNC milling operations off-centre. Consequently, you don’t necessarily need to invest in an additional milling machine.'

The lathe features a cutting capacity of 229 mm diameter by 356 mm length, a swing of 413 mm over the cross slide, it is equipped with a 6.5' hydraulic 3-jaw chuck and a 12-station VDI turret.
Additional high-productivity options include a belt-type chip conveyor, a tailstock with hydraulic quill, an automatic tool probe, an automatic parts catcher, high-pressure coolant systems, intelligent barfeed and much more.

Nick Remington concluded, 'HAAS UK has sold 1,000 new CNC machines in the past 26 months alone. Our customers rely on us to continually develop and provide new technologies that compete at all levels. Similar to when a new car model is launched, the new machine was in such high demand it was pre-ordered by many customers before we could even confirm delivery dates. The rising popularity of our lathes means we are stocking many different models and variations, ensuring lead times are kept to a minimum.'
