J&S Suprema now featured in ETG showroom

J&S Suprema now featured in ETG showroom

Added to MTDCNC by Hardinge Jones and Shipman on 01 November 2016

The latest Jones & Shipman Suprema Easy cylindrical grinding machine is now featured as a demonstration unit in the Engineering Technology Group’s Permanent Trade Show based at its Southam, Warwickshire headquarters.

This multi-purpose machine has a reputation as a true ‘all-rounder’ being equally adept at processing high volume production grinding work or fulfilling high precision small batch quantities and one off work as encountered in tool room or prototyping environments.

The machine featured in Southam has a 650mm grinding capacity between centres although longer 1000mm and 1500mm capacities are available.  The model is also the External wheel head option specifically designed to offer unrivalled ease-of-use coupled to the highest levels of productivity. A universal wheel head version with two external and one internal wheels is also available.

A key factor in the design of these robust and comprehensive cylindrical machines was the ongoing need for high geometric accuracy with quick changeovers between different grinding operations to maximise machine usage.

Another real advantage comes from the speed in the set-up of dressing and grinding cycles via Jones & Shipman’s specialist fast-to-set “EASY” graphical grinding software, utilising touch screen technology.

In addition to a new colour touch screen interface is the latest Fanuc power motor control that offers increased machine storage for thousands of dressing and grinding programmes.  It also offers increased processing speeds to further optimise programming and set up’s along with improved connectivity via a USB port.

Other features of the Suprema include the latest Fanuc digital drives and motors, Heidenhain’s 12.5nm scales to both the vertical and crossfeed axes, increased diameters on both the left and right hand external wheels for the universal wheel head configuration to offer longer wheel life and improved productivity by reducing the number of dresses required in the grinding cycles.

Comments Jones & Shipman Managing Director Mike Duignan, “ETG has a great facility which is a very complementary environment, offering visitors a comprehensive overview of many quality metal cutting capabilities.  We were very happy to take up the offer to add a J&S grinder to the machines on view which adds another dimension for ETG visitors.”
