MACH 2014 an outstanding success

Added to MTDCNC by MTDCNC on 28 April 2014

The MACH 2014 Exhibition was by any measure an outstanding success and reaffirmed MACH’s position as Britain’s biggest manufacturing technologies event. Over 23,000 visitors attended and a record 612 exhibitors took space in Halls 4 and 5 of the NEC Birmingham. The quality of enquiries and the orders placed were both very encouraging.

Graham Dewhurst, Director General of the MTA, says:  'MACH 2014 was an outstanding success with a record number of exhibitors and over 23,000 visitors during the five day event. There was a real buzz on the exhibition floors as MACH lived up to its strapline ‘Innovation in Action’. The feedback from exhibitors has been really positive, emphasising quality enquiries and an abundance of orders. The success of MACH 2014 underscores the growing strength of the UK’s engineering based manufacturing sector.'
The Exhibition had a roaring launch from former world land speed record holder Richard Noble OBE who then went on to tour the Exhibition. He later gave an exciting presentation on progress with his Bloodhound Supersonic Car project. Iain Wright MP, the shadow minister for manufacturing, was very impressed with the technologies on display during his visit to MACH. Later in the week the Business Secretary Dr Vince Cable MP toured the show and held a round table with business leaders to discuss investment, skills, Europe and the problems experienced by SMEs trying to fund growth projects. He concluded his visit by delivering a speech to exhibitors, visitors and the media in a packed Seminar Theatre. Dr Cable said: 'MACH provided a good opportunity to see for myself the latest advances in manufacturing technology and meet the people behind them.'

The feedback from exhibitors has been extremely positive.

Nigel Atherton, the Managing Director of XYZ Machine Tools said:

'If the Show had ended Tuesday night we would have said ‘good show’ but after another two great days I can say ‘fantastic show’ best in years. Orders and quality enquiries in abundance.'

Guy Newton, General Manager, Ellesco Ltd said:

'With the largest stand in Hall 4 and a perfect position, we welcomed record numbers of customers and new visitors. Our enquiry level was significantly higher than 2012 in both quantity and, more importantly, quality.'

One of the themes of MACH 2014 was encouraging young people to consider a career in engineering and in particular the manufacturing technologies sector. The Education & Training Zone was visited by 3,000 students during the show and more than half of them were given conducted tours of the Exhibition by apprentices from exhibiting companies.
