Delapena Honing Equipment has announced that Martin Elliott has stepped up to the role of Managing Director, with the brief to oversee the ongoing resurgence in demand for new honing technology from the Cheltenham based business.

Martin joined Delapena three and a half years ago as Operations Director, working alongside company owner David Arthur, to help develop new honing machines and develop the business as not just a ‘machine builder’ but a provider of a complete honing solutions. He has achieved this by putting his automotive background to good use, ensuring that every aspect of the business is now process driven.

'When I joined Delapena the economy was at its lowest ebb, but I was encouraged by the fact that Delapena was determined to carry on investing, developing new machines, such as our E-series and bringing in new manufacturing technology to improve our own productivity,' says Martin Elliott. 'That foresight is paying dividends now with strong demand for the E-series honing machines, growth in the supply of honing tooling and abrasives and while the UK remains our largest market, we are seeing strong sales throughout the world, particularly in France, India, Pakistan and the USA.'

It is often said that you shouldn’t look back in business, but this is one thing that Martin Elliott has done, tapping into Delapena’s 85 year history, throughout which the Delapena name has been synonymous with precision honing excellence. 'One thing that comes across from Paul Delapena the son of the founder of the business was the passion his father had for the honing process. That is something that the whole team has worked hard to restore here at Delapena Honing Equipment, and to provide the highest level of service from the moment of the first enquiry through to developing a process for our customers including supplying stones and oil, through to ensuring these customers receive lifetime support for their Delapena equipment,'

Sales at Delapena are extremely positive at the moment, with growth coming from targeting mid-volume manufacture in industries such as oil & gas, and aerospace. Changes to the product range, including the use of Siemens controls on the E-series machines that allows remote diagnostics via the Internet, and the creation of a Webshop sales portal for all honing consumables are also playing a role in the positive outlook at Delapena.

'Recent sales of new and re-manufactured honing machines have been very strong and our target is to deliver one machine per week, which we are confident is achievable given the positive feedback we are getting from existing customers and new customers,' says Martin Elliott.
