ST32G sliding head sub spindle lathe from Doosan

Added to MTDCNC by Mills CNC Ltd on 31 July 2014

The new ST32G sliding head sub spindle lathe from Doosan is a high performance, cost-competitive, versatile and reliable machine that is equipped with the latest Fanuc 31iB CNC and 7-axis capability. When MTD visited Mills CNC earlier this month, we were extremely impressed by the versatility of the new ST32G, which means it can handle the most complex small turned parts with its world class specification and technology. All this, ensures optimum cycle times and component accuracy are achieved across a wide range of applications.

Available from Mills CNC, the introduction of the ST32G  with its 32mm bar capacity represents a major new initiative for Mills CNC, as it further expands the company’s already comprehensive and popular range of CNC turning centres.

The new ST32G has a 5.5/7.5kW 8,000rpm main spindle that is oil cooled with a sub spindle providing 2.2/3.7kW of power and 8,000rpm. The Doosan ST32G also provides rapid rates on all axes of 32m/min to significantly reduce non-cutting production times.

The standard tooling configuration is 6 static turning tools; 4  static front tools; 4 cross milling (rotary) tools including milling holders; 2 static and 2 milling holders on the back tool post and 2 static sleeves for deep hole drilling. This exceptional tooling configuration allows the ST32G to reduce tool changeovers, set-up times and improve productivity levels beyond that of alternate sliding head turning centres.

In addition, the machine has servo-driven synchronized guide bushes as standard, with Doosan’s own 'Magic Guide Bush' as an option to handle non-ground bar. Furthermore, all machines brought into the UK will have preparation for 160 bar cutting oil supply. The latest Fanuc 31iB CNC includes many special features to assist the operator, such as Auto Collet Adjustment, Auto Cut Off Cycle, Tool Setup Self Check and Tool Life Management.

As part of the package offered to customers, Mills can provide auxiliary equipment that includes bar-feeders, swarf conveyors, high-pressure coolant systems, mist extraction units, fire suppression and tool monitoring systems.
