Cut metal with minimal training on the Colchester Tornado EL range

Cut metal with minimal training on the Colchester Tornado EL range

Added to MTDCNC by 600 UK on 04 July 2014

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the first Tornado build, Colchester have launched their new entry level Tornado EL range of 2 and 3-axis production CNC turning centres at a lower price than in 1994, since when over 10,000 have been supplied to countries around the world.

The Tornado EL range complements the current Tornado T range, but is specifically designed to enable operators to quickly cut metal with the minimum of training, alongside this market leading pricing. The Tornado has always enjoyed a strong reputation for high quality, competitively priced production CNC turning machines and the EL model continues this tradition.

Sharing the new robust modular platform as its more sophisticated stablemate, the Tornado EL CNC turning centre retains the Tornado renown accuracy and reliability, but adds to it, the most user friendly Colchester developed CNC control on the market.

The entire Tornado CNC turning centre range is built exclusively in the UK at 600 UK’s Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire facility which has seen major investment over the past 12 months.  From the base casting upwards, the complete machine has been designed with a focus on UK supply and support.

There are eight new models in the range, including 2 and 3 axis versions. From the compact EL2, with a 42mm spindle bore with a 7.5kW spindle motor producing a maximum speed of 6000rpm, up to the EL10 model with an 82mm spindle bore, 18.5kW motor producing 4000rpm.

The Tornado EL 3-axis versions are equipped with full C-axis interpolation, spindle disc brake and driven tooling to make radial and axial milling, drilling, boring and tapping easier than ever.

The Tornado EL range is fitted, as standard, with the Fanuc OiTD control system and operating panel and is targeted at operators who need to cut metal instantly and without fuss. Colchester design engineers have ensured that the new EL range fully meets this key user requirement.

Howard Bamforth, 600 UK Sales Director said 'We are proud of our UK design and manufacturing expertise and we have once again listened to our customer requirements for a high performance machine at a great price.  We believe the new EL range fits that brief exactly.  With prices from under £39,000, these are highly competitive, providing a great balance between economy and productivity.'
