TRUMPF Ltd sponsors Haywood Academy in KMF's Young Engineer of the Year

Added to MTDCNC by TRUMPF on 10 October 2013

Our Newcastle-under-Lyme based customer KMF launched their first Young Engineer of the Year (YEOTY) competition in 2012/13, in a bid to inspire the next generation of engineers, by bringing hands on engineering into the classroom. The pilot campaign was hugely successful and the company have committed to running a project on the same scale for the foreseeable future. While last year's event saw more than 1,700 students take part in the event with the task of creating a mechanical clock, this year the competition will see each entrant build a Greenpower racing car.

Over 20 schools were invited to the launch of KMF's Young Engineer of the Year 2013/14 and the project was welcomed openly, with 16 schools committing to take part in the project. The project is aimed at year 10 Design & Technology students and there will be 24 students representing each school: twelve students for the 'Build Team' and twelve students for the 'Design Team'. Once the vehicle is complete, a race will take place as part of the grand final. Each school will then be required to nominate one person they feel should be the KMF Young Engineer of the Year with the overall winner being awarded on the day of the race.

TRUMPF sponsors Haywood Academy based in Stoke-on-Trent, helping them compete against other schools on the pivotal race day. TRUMPF employees Graham Jessop and Roy Bennett will assist and mentor the Haywood students throughout the whole process and help meeting the milestones!
