TRUMPF ToolShuttle reduces press brake set-up time by as much as 50%

Added to MTDCNC by TRUMPF on 08 May 2013

The new TRUMPF ToolShuttle reduces press brake set-up time by as much as 50%, increasing productivity and simplifying the operator’s tasks.  It stores up to 160 metres of bending tools, on four levels and in a closed housing.

TRUMPF developed this system for several reasons.  The principal goal was to provide a central repository for tools that are not in use, protecting them from production debris and damage. An optional air dryer enhances corrosion protection.

The ToolShuttle control system loads the required tool onto the input/output station for where it is transferred via slide to the tool clamping point.  This saves time spent searching for the tool and the physical effort involved in tool loading.

Additionally ToolShuttle saves space.  Its footprint is less than six square metres but the system still comprises 32 storage compartments, each holding up to five metres of bending tools.  The choice of storage arrangement can be by tool type or tools can be grouped together for a specific job or families of parts.
